Mariah J always knew she was meant to be an artist.

“My mom told me that when I was a little girl, I would watch music videos all the time and one day I told her that I would be a teacher by day and a Spice girl by night.”

Born and raised from Dayton, Ohio in 1994, also known as the birthplace of funk music, Mariah J spent her adolescent years deeply rooted in church, dance, and her youth choir.  She attended Stivers School for the Arts, where her focus heavily centered dance and creative writing however, her love for singing never left.  While receiving her Bachelors of Science in Organizational Leadership with a focus in Youth & Community Engagement from the College of Education & Human Services at Wright State University in 2012-2016 she was still singing in her black campus choir, In His Presence Gospel Choir.  She traveled with this group all over the city and state and performed and shared stages with gospel artists such as Amante Lacey, Isaiah Templeton, Jonathan McReynolds, Tonya Baker, and Timothy Reddick .  She is also a music producer and spiritual herbalist apprentice under the direction of Empress Karen Rose.

Mariah released her debut EP, When You Call On Freedom's Name, in December of 2019 now available on Soundcloud.  Mariah can be found showing her love and support for all mediums of art and healing, often helping to cultivate peace, culture, and love through organizing artists activists via grassroots efforts.  She has a deep and passionate love for Afro-indigenous culture and history and consistently uses her platform and music to speak out on issues affecting our society, especially black, indigenous and of color women.

Mariah is an artist activist who helps co-create the world we all deserve through art, culture, healing, and enlightenment.
